Sanjit “Bunker” Roy is an Indian social activist and educator. In 1972 he founded the Barefoot College, a non governmental organization that aims to solve problems like drinking water quality, female education, health and sanitation, rural unemployment, energy as well as social awareness and the conservation of ecological systems in rural India. Designed for the youth living in poor and rudimentary conditions in rural India, Barefoot College has trained more than 3 million people for jobs in the modern world. Helped people steer their own path out of poverty by combining humanitarianism, entrepreneurship and education, Sanjit “Bunker” roy was selected as one of the 100 most influential personalities in the world by TIME Magazine in 2010.
